Allow me to say that it is really fucking weird for a supposed libertarian to throw a shit fit because someone else is honoring contracts. The older doctors signed contracts allowing them to claim certification in perpetuity without recertification. That was a bad idea, and the boards no longer offer those contracts. But they did offer them, and people did sign them.
How come Libertarians are always flipping out when people take advantage of precisely the kinds of systems they themselves claim they would implement?

The two conventions in Pittsburgh would be more entertaining if they were not miles apart:
At the airport
Downtown

"But transportation issues are social-justice issues. The toll of bad transit policies and worse infrastructure—trains and buses that don’t run well and badly serve low-income neighborhoods, vehicular traffic that pollutes the environment and endangers the lives of cyclists and pedestrians—is borne disproportionately by black and brown communities."

At DragonCon 2000 the Salvation Army was having thier National Convention in an adjacent center. The two crowds mixed surprisingly well.Josh_Kablack wrote:The two conventions in Pittsburgh would be more entertaining if they were not miles apart:

That was the year that the FASA booth was right next to the Trauma Pictures booth.
But...that's Atlanta for ya.

Both years I've been to Ohayocon, there has been a cheerleading convention in the same general building.
Walking around watching these young girls wearing more makeup than a lot of the cosplayers shy back from the other conventiongoers has probably counted among the more amusing experiences of my life.

Out beyond the hull, mucoid strings of non-baryonic matter streamed past like Christ's blood in the firmament.

And in 2009, there was some kind of religious convention in the same building. Ohayocon was split on each end of the building, and you had to walk across. The religious people were in between. They did not seem to appreciate the Jesus cosplayers. Both years I've been to Ohayocon, there has been a cheerleading convention in the same general building.
Oh man, conservatives and furries; it's a troll's wet dream in the Pitts.Josh_Kablack wrote:The two conventions in Pittsburgh would be more entertaining if they were not miles apart:

Anthrocon has a very conservative leadership. They're pretty quick to exclude people from the premises. I would not attend it. But I have many friends who do, Philadelphia is closer to more people than any other furry con, I think.

Unexpected ally in Freedom of Speech ruling. The lawyer told the Justices, for example, that one of the chief sponsors of the anti-gay marriage referendum in Washington had his family sleep in the living room to protect them from retaliation.

Now all they have to do is deal with intimidation and harrasment at actual polling places and everything will be peachy.Crissa wrote:Unexpected ally in Freedom of Speech ruling. The lawyer told the Justices, for example, that one of the chief sponsors of the anti-gay marriage referendum in Washington had his family sleep in the living room to protect them from retaliation.

It's not just furries and anti-abortionists in town this weeked, apparently we have a third convention here.

Presumably not like that, because that story is more full of holes than swiss cheese. What did the Black Panthers actually do. Apparently "they" brandished "a weapon." I don't know how a group brandishes a weapon. And they don't describe the weapon, but apparently only one person had one - unless they were comically passing it around. Was it a firearm? A bottle? Was it something whose actual use was as a weapon, or was it something that served some other purpose?Data Vampire wrote:Like this?
And what did they do? Did they issue any threats? Did they strike anyone? What? Because the article only mentions them being intimidating. And of being black. And having boots. And berets. None of those things are crimes. It goes on and on with the hyperbole, but what did they actually do? Having a cool looking outfit and black skin is not now, and hopefully never will be a crime. It's not voter intimidation until someone actually makes a threat, explicit or implied, to do something.
Here is a list of potential incidents from that day. Supposedly there was one black dude who had a tonfa, and the police escorted him off the premises. Dun dun DUN! No, that's not the most flagrant act of voter intimidation. Hell, there was a dude threatening to lynch Obama to death outside a polling place in North Carolina. Tonfas are not actually illegal, and merely holding one is not grounds for any legal action. The police felt that the man was in a gray area and removed him from the premises. What the hell else did anyone expect? Hasn't actually broken the law, but he's being provocative and towing the line rather closely, so the Police step in with a bullshit nuisance complaint that won't hold up in court on first amendment grounds and no one gets into a fight and everyone wins.
What the fuck?

Here's a video of the incident. Here's the crime that columnist accused them of. Here's a Fox News interview with the person that made the complaint for whatever that is worth. Here is some legal info on the it the case.

Best line of the article: "I'm not calling the U.S. Government wimps, but if BP had declared jihad instead of forming a corporation before doing this they'd be nuclear glass"

I wonder if the snarky white guy would have harassed a white dude with the same uniform and weapon?
Technically, you're allowed to hang out and watch the polling places. That's why they have people of various parties there.
One incident does not make for a pattern, either.

The government is finally protecting companies from the results of bad loans. Or, at least, it's making sure that the recipients of bad loans can never own homes again. We can rest assured that next recession, it will be homeowners that bear the brunt rather than the innocent companies which have been preyed upon for far too long.
The law in its majestic equality forbids the rich as well as the poor from stealing bread, begging and sleeping under bridges.

Right now, or earlier at least, there was rioting during Toronto's G20 summit. Police cars have been set on fire and crowds are growing.

Perfect time to rob a bank or something. It took 20 minutes for cops to even show up at burning cars. Oh, and cops have been transfered from G8 to G20 to help stem the rioters.
I can't say I'm surprised... ROW ROW, FIGHT THA POWAH.

Youfailscienceforever.jpgProposals for “cap and tax” are wrong...because they allow the government to control carbon – a natural element and one of the building blocks of life.
That being said, several of those ThinkProgress quotes are misleading, intellectually-dishonest crap, as is par for the course for any openly-biased website.
